FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON
The first snow of the season is falling as we approach sunrise this morning. The hard surfaces are still warm enough to melt it, but the grass and trees are turning white. I thought I had time before bringing up the shoe scraper, snow broom, and shovel, but the weather has its own plans.

While talking about yesterdays’s upsets in college football, we commented on players' challenges with focus through the season. For 18-year-olds, six months is 1/4 of their entire memories. For us, that’s over a decade. No wonder it’s hard—their perception of time is vastly different than ours.

Experimenting with cross-posting to Mastodon from micro.blog. I came across a beautiful poem by Annie Lighthart today. It is called “A Great Wild Goodness” and includes the sentence: “I wanted to be kind to everything.” I wake up feeling that way sometimes but I let the urge fall away as I read the news and social media. Somehow, for now, my Mastodon feed doesn’t do that to me. If anything, it bolsters that urge.
